With less than a week off, the #6 UCLA gymnastics team will battle the Arizona GymCats (5-3, 0-2) this Saturday at Pauley Pavilion at 1:00. The Bruins are coming off a tri meet win, beating Utah State by .375 and Bridgeport by over a point and a half. Kyla Ross scored yet another perfect 10 on beam, which was her second in only two days. Sophomore Katelyn Ohashi received her first Pac-12 Specialist of the Week honor, and Kyla Ross was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. The Bruins’ lowest scores were on floor, which is an event that Arizona put up two 9.95s in their loss at #14 Washington last weekend. Arizona also had a season high team score on beam, where Haylie Hendrickson and Kennady Secneider recorded season and career high scores of 9.875 and 9.850, respectively.
The GymCats are led by captains sophomore Lauryn Mattson, junior Madison Cindric, and senior Krysten Howard. Arizona welcomed back 10 returning gymnasts, four of which were sophomores. Each sophomore has had a great season, earning a new season and career high on one or more events.
Arizona has not won a road meet since February 22, 2016, when they beat Arizona State by almost three full points.
