UCLA Gymnastics Looks For Another Pac-12 Title

The Bruins look to defend their Pac-12 title at Maples Pavilion on the Stanford campus.

Tonight, the UCLA Gymnastics team will compete in the second session of the Pac-12 Gymnastics Championships. The Bruins have the top seed overall in the competition and will start on the vault, then compete on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise in that order.

The Bruins earned the top seed by having the highest Regional Qualifying Score of all eight schools competing.

In the afternoon session, Stanford was the highest scoring team with a score of 196.625. The team with the highest score from both sessions will win the conference championship.

The Bruins are looking for their second consecutive Pac-12 Championship and 18th overall.

Overall, UCLA has had an exciting season, filled with eight Perfect Tens by four different Bruins. It’s the most since the 2004 team scored a school-record of 20. They are tied with Oklahoma for the most perfect scores in the nation this season. This season has been so good that, when you watch them perform, there is a sense that a Perfect Ten can happen at any given time. This team has been that good.

Yet, at the same time, they are a bit of an underdog going into tonight’s session because Utah is one of only two schools to have beaten UCLA so far this season. Can the Bruins have a strong enough meet to win their second straight conference championship? We’ll find out tonight.
