After a storybook regular season ending in Pauley Pavilion last weekend, the UCLA gymnastics team will be the #1 overall seed in the Pac-12 Gymnastics Championships and, as a result, the Bruins will compete in the evening session. Six of the eight competing teams are ranked in the Top 25.
With a Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 197.885, UCLA will compete in Session Two along with #2 Utah, #3 Oregon State, and #4 UC Berkeley. The RQS takes a team’s Top 6 scores, three of which must be on the road, throwing out the high and averaging the remaining five. The Bruins will open on the vault and they will continue with the Olympic order ending on floor.
Session One teams include 5th seeded Washington, 6th Arizona State, 7th Arizona, and 8th seeded Stanford.
While UCLA does not compete until tonight, the scores from Session One are still ranked against the scores from Session Two. So, it is possible for a Session One team to outscore a Session Two team.
This is your Pac-12 Gymnastics Championships open thread.
Go Bruins!
