Senior Day had been one to remember for the UCLA Bruins. Seniors Courtney Proctor and Gabbi Miranda each scored a goal. Miranda scored the game-winning goal just 41 seconds after Washington State had equalized. The seniors played a pivotal role in a win that secured the Bruins fourth place in the Pac-12 standings. They are just two points away from conference leaders Stanford.
UCLA takes a road trip to the Colorado Buffaloes. The Bruins hope to hand Colorado their second conference loss and take third place in the standings. Colorado comes into the game on a high. In their last game, they defeated Cal with two seconds left in double overtime. That is one way to bring confidence to the team. The Bruins defense had a better game last week. It has been a theme of theirs to score a goal only to let the opponents get one as well right after. The defense held their own for the majority of the game for the win. On the road, the Bruins are 6-0. They have yet to lose on the road with only three crucial games remaining against top schools.
A key to a win can be in the midfield. The midfield is arguably the most crucial part of a team. Freshmen Anika Rodriguez, Jessie Fleming, seniors Gabbi Miranda, and Annie Alvarado work hard in the midfield to connect the defense and the offense. The four players have different mindsets to help bring the team to life. The midfielders have even recorded the most points with 16 goals and 16 assists. These records demonstrate just how powerful they are. When the offense can’t find a break-through, the midfield is there to help. Their undeniable chemistry will be key not only in the Colorado game but in regular and post-season games.
