Ten teams have attempted to dethrone No. 1 UCLA women’s soccer this season.

None have succeeded thus far.

The Bruins (9-0-1, 2-0 Pac-12) continued their perfect season with a 2-0 victory over the Oregon Ducks (6-4, 0-2) on Thursday. UCLA has accumulated four shutouts on the season.

While it rarely faced dry spells early on in the year, Amanda Cromwell’s offensive battalion has had some rough stretches over the previous few weeks.

Nonetheless, the Bruins still tallied two goals in the first half.

In the 16th minute, redshirt sophomore midfielder/forward Anika Rodriguez threaded a free kick past the Oregon wall of players and goalkeeper Halla Hinriksdottir to put UCLA on the board.

The Bruins didn’t allow the Ducks to answer back before recording their next goal in the 22nd minute.

Junior forward Hailie Mace received a cross in the box and tapped in the easy shot. It was her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Jessie Fleming and freshman forward Ashley Sanchez each tallied their team-leading sixth assist from the play as well.

The second half of the match was filled with opportunities, but neither side could capitalize. Cromwell noted some frustration after the game regarding the team’s performance in the second half, but the effort still resulted in a win and clean sheet.

UCLA takes on Oregon State (3-5-2, 0-2) on Sunday. It could be a one-sided affair, considering the Beavers have only scored five goals on the year.

But their defense hasn’t been dreadful, as they are allowing a tad more than one goal per game. Nevertheless, the Bruins have an opportunity to put the poor half against the Ducks behind.
