The #1 UCLA Women’s Soccer team completed non-conference action undefeated. The Bruins finished with a 7-0-1 mark with the tie coming last Friday against Pepperdine.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half. Despite the score, the first half was all UCLA as the Bruins outshot the Waves 7-0, but they just couldn’t get one of those shots past Pepperdine goalkeeper Brielle Preece. In the 44th minute, it looked like the Bruins had finally broken through when freshman midfielder Viviana Villacorta appeared to have scored, but Villacorta was called for being offsides and the goal didn’t count.

The second half was more balanced with UCLA again taking seven shots and Pepperdine taking six. Hallie Mace scored the first goal of the game just 37 seconds into the second half.

It stayed 1-0 until the 77th minute when Jamie Van Horn scored the equalizer after Bri Visalli’s header was blocked by a Bruin defender and Van Horn got the rebound and put it into the net.

The game went into double overtime, but neither team was able to break the tie.

Today, the Bruins open Pac-12 play with a day game against the Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder.
