If you’re a Bruin fan who’s a fan of women’s soccer, you’re in for a treat today. That’s because today’s doubleheader will feature Bruins in both games. Of course, by now, we now about all the Bruins associated with the US Women’s National Team. Well, after Team USA plays at 9 am PT this morning on Fox Sports 1, Team Canada follows with a match at noon PT. Team Canada, of course, features current Bruin Jessie Fleming, who scored her first World Cup goal on June 15.

Team Canada’s match will also air on Fox Sports 1.

Of today’s two matches, the second one will likely be the better match of the two. That’s because Sweden is a very good team and so is Canada. In fact, it’s very possible that this match could come down to penalty kicks.

Admittedly, I’m not exactly the biggest fan of soccer, in general, and two reasons for that are draws and games where penalty kicks decide who wins. But, unfortunately, it is what it is and, if there’s no winner after regulation and 30 minutes of overtime, the match will be decided by penalty kicks. Those are the rules.

So, when predicting what will happen, you’ve got to consider that it could come down to penalty kicks and this match looks like it could come down to them.

Today’s first match between the US and Spain, however, shouldn’t come down to penalty kicks as the USWNT should take this one in regulation. In Group Play, Spain finished 1-1-1. They defeated South Africa, 3-1; they lost to Germany, 1-0; and, they tied China, 0-0.

But, the United States still has not allowed a goal.

So, really, the only question about this morning’s match is: How many goals will Team USA score? My prediction for today’s match is 4-0, USA.
