UCLA Women’s Soccer Faces Hawai’i After Tying Pepperdine, 2-2

The Bruins came back from being down 2-1, but couldn’t score a game-winner despite unleashing an offensive barrage on the Waves.

Ashley Sanchez scored both Bruin goals in Thursday’s 2-2 draw against Pepperdine.

This evening, the UCLA women’s soccer team returns to action with a game against the Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine. Today’s game kickoff at 6:30 pm PT.

Last Time Out

On Thursday, the Bruins opened play in this weekend’s Rainbow Wahine Shootout and UCLA drew first blood when junior Ashley Sanchez scored in the 5th minute to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead.

But, Pepperdine tied it up in the 34th minute with a goal from Cloe Gaynor. Then, in the 52nd minute, Haley Stenberg put the Waves ahead 2-1.

UCLA went on an offensive barrage at that point as well as some stout defense. The Bruins took the next twelve shots in regulation while not allowing another to Pepperdine, even in overtime.

Unfortunately, only one of those shots by the Bruins found the net and that was another one from Sanchez who scored the equalizer in the 65th minute.

In overtime, UCLA was able to take three more shots, none of which went in, resulting in the 2-2 draw.

Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine

On Thursday, the Rainbow Wahine lost their third straight game to drop to 2-5-1 on the season when they lost to Washington State, 1-0. The only two wins of the year for Hawai’i have come against Nevada and North Dakota State while the Rainbow Wahine have now lost to Southern Cal, USF, South Dakota State, North Dakota and Washington State.

In other words, the Rainbow Wahine are not a very good soccer team.

Look for the Bruins to shut this one down in the first half. In fact, I’d be surprised if UCLA even allows Hawai’i to take a shot on goal in this one. Look for a 4-0 Bruin win.

Go Bruins!!!
