UCLA Women’s Volleyball Hosts Oregon State As The Season Starts Winding Down

The Oregon State Beavers come to Pauley Pavilion tonight to face the UCLA Women’s Volleyball team.

With just four matches left in the regular season, the UCLA Women’s Volleyball team remains tied for first place in the Pac-12 with Washington. Both teams have a 12-4 record in conference play and they appear headed to a showdown next Wednesday with the conference championship at stake.

But, before that happens, the team has two games this weekend against the Oregon schools. Tonight is the first of those two when the team hosts Oregon State at Pauley Pavilion.

On Saturday, UCLA defeated then-#9 Stanford in five sets in Palo Alto, winning the first, third and fifth sets. The final scoring was 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 16-25, 15-11.

Torrey Van Winden led the Bruins with 19 kills in the match, which was enough to earn her a second Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award. Overall, UCLA had four Bruins in double figures in kills. Reily Buechler had 18, Jordan Anderson had 13 and Jennie Frager added 10 more.

Ryann Chandler and Kylie Miller led the team in assists. Chandler had 31 and Miller posted 28. And, as usual, Taylor Formico led the Bruins in digs with 18.

The win gave the Bruins both a Bay Area sweep for the weekend and a sweep of Stanford for the season, which was the team’s first season sweep of the Cardinal since 2011.

The Bruins have won 17 in a row over the Beavers including a three-set sweep in Corvallis on October 14th and they have a 28-2 advantage over OSU in Westwood, but Oregon State did defeat Colorado last weekend at home.

The Beavers are led by junior Mary-Kate Marshall who is averaging 4.05 kills per set and sophomore Lanesha Reagan who is second on the team with 3.30 kills per set.

Tonight’s match should be the easier of this weekend’s two matches as the Bruins will face the #19 Oregon Ducks on Friday at the John Wooden Center. Hopefully, the team doesn’t get caught looking ahead to Oregon or Washington and just goes out and quickly takes care of business tonight.
