There are just three games left in the regular season for the UCLA Women’s Volleyball team, but every one of them is still critical. After Wednesday night’s win against Oregon State, UCLA holds a one-half game lead over the Washington Huskies, who still have four games remaining in the season including their game tonight at Colorado.

Meanwhile, an hour after Washington starts their match against the Buffaloes, UCLA will host Oregon at the John Wooden Center.

UCLA is coming off a three-set win on Wednesday night against Oregon State when the Bruins won 25-22, 25-14, 25-16. Reily Buechler led the Bruins with a double-double consisting 19 kills and 15 digs. Taylor Formico had 27 digs which was one dig short of a UCLA record for a three-set match. Kylie Miller and Ryann Chandler both had 17 assists.

With the score 5-1 UCLA in the first set, the Beavers went on 6-1 run of their own to take a 7-6 lead. It would be their only lead of the set as the Bruins went on their second 5-1 run of the set to make it 11-8. OSU scored the next three points to tie the game up but UCLA scored 6 of the next 8 points to take a 17-13 lead. The Beavers got as close as two four times after that but they couldn’t get any closer and the Bruins took the set 25-22.

The teams split the first 10 points of the second set, but then Kyra Rodgers started a 5-0 run for the Bruins and the Beavers never got closer than 3 points down as UCLA won the second set 25-14.

Oregon State started the third set with a 5-2 run that UCLA responded to with a 5-2 run of their own to tie the game at 7-7. The Bruins added a second consecutive 5-2 run to take a 12-9 lead. The Beavers closed the gap to 2 at 12-10, at 13-11 and again at 15-13 but that’s as close as they would get. A 9-1 run by the Bruins that included a service error and six attack errors by Oregon State would all but end the set and the match as the Bruins won the third set 25-16.

As for the Oregon Ducks, they are currently in third place in the conference with an 11-5 record, a game and a half behind UCLA. They’ve won four of their last five with their only loss in those matches coming last week at Utah. So, the Ducks come to the Wooden Center still in the hunt for the conference championship.

That makes tonight another must-win for the Bruins who are looking for their fifth straight victory. Overall, UCLA is 29-3 at home against Oregon but they did lose the meeting in Westwood between these teams last season.
