The UCLA Women’s Volleyball team is in Minneapolis tonight for the NCAA Regionals where they will face the North Carolina Tar Heels after they swept Baylor last Saturday.

Reily Buechler led the Bruins with 13 kills against Baylor and freshman Torrey Van Winden added 12 more. Ryann Chandler posted a double-double with 14 assists and 11 digs while Kylie Miller led the team in assists with 23 and Taylor Formico had 14 digs.

UCLA didn’t trail in the first set and Baylor didn’t tie the score until 20-20. But, the Bruins scored 5 of the next 6 points to take set number 1.

In set two, the teams went back and forth to start and were tied 5-5 after 10 points. Baylor scored the next two points to take the lead before the Bruins went on a 13-4 run to make it 18-11. The teams split the next six points and, then, the Bears cut the Bruins’ lead to 4, 21-17. They split the next six points again before UCLA took the second set 25-20.

The final set was more of a battle with 11 ties and 8 lead changes. The final tie came when Claire Felix scored the Bruins’ 17th point. Jordan Anderson killed the next volley to give UCLA the lead in the set for good as the Bruins would score 9 of the final 12 points to take the final set and the match.

North Carolina comes into tonight’s match riding a 10-game winning streak. Their last loss came on the road at Pittsburgh. The Tar Heels are led by their outside hitters, sophomore Taylor Leath, who averages 3.13 kills per set, and freshman Julia Scoles, who averages 3.05 kills per set.
