Prior to last night, the last time the UCLA Women’s Volleyball team started 7-0 was 2006.
Well, the Bruins swept UC Irvine, 25-15, 25-10, 25-18, last night to improve their record to 7-0 this year. Tonight, the team will look to extend this year’s record to 8-0 against #15 San Diego at 6pm in their second and final game of the USD Invitational.
Reily Buechler and Jordan Anderson led the Bruins with 12 kills each while Ryann Chandler and Kylie Miller added 21 and 16 assists, respectively. Jennie Frager had a .462 hitting percentage for the match on 13 attempts and Anderson hit .417.
UCLA trailed only once in the first set before taking a 9-4 on the heels of a 7-1 run. UCI closed the gap to 9-6 before the Bruins went on a 7-2 run to make it 16-8.
Reily Buechler’s set-winning point gave the Bruins a double-digit victory, 25-15.
The second set was even more one-sided as UCLA never trailed in the set. With the score tied 4-4, UCLA went on a 16-3 run to take a commanding 20-7 lead and they closed it out with a final score of 25-10.
In the third and final set, the Bruins trailed 1-0 to start and again at 2-1. From there on out, it was all Bruins even if the final 25-18 score looks relatively close.
When the Bruins take to the court tonight, they will look to keep pace with the 2006 team which started the season that year with 20 consecutive victories.
Tonight’s match will have live video, live audio and live stats.
Go Bruins!!!
