The UCLA Women’s Volleyball team started off a little slow against Pacific. In the first set, they fell behind 5-1 early and just could not catch up. They got as close as two points away on five separate occasions, but they just close the gap any further.
The second set started very similar to the first one. Pacific took an early lead leading 8-2. This time, things were different. The Bruins stormed back. They scored 7 straight points to make it 8-6. After seesawing through the next four points, UCLA was down 10-7.
The Bruins went on a 10-4 run to make it 17-14 and they never looked back, winning the set 25-21.
Again, though, UCLA was slow out of the gate, falling behind 5-2 quickly. Three points in a row tied things up at 5 and the teams battled it out for a while until the score was tied 11-11. The Bruins scored the next three points to take a 14-11 lead. Through the remainder of the set, the Bruins stayed in control as they gradually increased their lead and finished the set with the 25-18 win.
The fourth and final set was a hard fought seesaw battle from the start. No team led by more than 2 through the first 26 points when the score was tied 13-13. That’s when UCLA scored two in a row, making it 15-13. The Bruins never allowed Pacific to tie it after that and finished on a 10-6 run, giving UCLA the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
Jordan Anderson posted 17 kills for the match while Zara Muno and Ryann Chandler both had a double-doubles. Muno finished the night with 14 kills and 13 digs and Chandler had 43 assists and 11 digs.
Tonight, the Bruins face the Missouri State Bears at 7:45pm PT in their second game of the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic. Missouri State started their season off by going 2-1 in the Illinois Tournament last weekend and the Bears fell to 2-2 last night after losing to Hawai’i in straight sets.
UCLA has won all six previous matches. Missouri State has only won two sets in those six meetings.
Like last night, there is no TV, streaming or audio available for tonight’s match, but live stats will again be available on uclabruins.com.
