At one set apiece, an upset looked possible.
But by the end of the night, the critical win slipped through the fingers of No. 13 UCLA women’s volleyball players.
The Bruins (12-6, 5-4 Pac-12) couldn’t come away with a victory over the No. 12 Utah Utes (17-3, 8-1), exiting the state with a 3-1 loss – 25-20, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19.
Senior pin hitter Riley Buechler rebounded after a substandard performance against Cal last week, tallying 13 kills on the evening. Freshman outside hitter Jenny Mosser added 15 of her own.
Overall, however, UCLA’s offense posted a measly .130 hitting percentage. Utah wasn’t much better, hitting .227, but it resulted in the victory. Leading hitter Adora Anae led the squad with 17 kills.
The Bruins now look to split their longest conference road trip of the season, as they take on the Colorado Buffaloes (15-5, 5-4) on Saturday night.
Colorado, though unranked, has prevailed against to top-25 teams this season in Oregon and USC. The Buffs also gave Stanford a run for its money when they matched up against them.
They are riding a three-game winning streak and are 7-1 at home this season. Keep an eye on Alexa Smith and Frankie Shebby near the net, as the pose the biggest threats offensively.
