The UCLA women’s volleyball team heads south today to play two games this weekend at the USD Invitational. First up is the 12th-ranked Baylor Bears this afternoon at 1 pm PT.
Last weekend, Baylor defeated LSU, Texas State and Marquette as the host of the Baylor Invitational. The Bears went on to beat North Texas on Tuesday to move their record to 4-0.
So, they enter today’s match with some positive momentum to start the season.
But, so do the Bruins.
UCLA made the most of their cancelled Hawai’i trip last weekend when, instead, they faced the Gonzaga Bulldogs who also cancelled their trip to Hawai’i last weekend due to Hurricane Lane.
So, instead, the Bruins hosted two matches against the Bulldogs and UCLA came away with a pair of 3-1 wins. While they sound like relatively easy wins, these two matches should probably have been easier wins for the Bruins.
This week, the Bruins will face two tough tests. Today’s match against Baylor looks to be the tougher of the two since the Bears are currently ranked 12th in the country.
But, Sunday’s match against San Diego can’t be taken lightly because the Toreros, at 19th, are also ranked in the top 20.
As a result, UCLA will need to play better than last weekend if the Bruins want to remain undefeated.
While the offiical site says that there will be streaming video of today’s match, it doesn’t look like there will be any. There will, however, be live audio, courtesy of Baylor, as well as live stats. The links for both can be found in the sidebar up top.
