This afternoon, the UCLA women’s volleyball team welcomes the UC Berkeley Golden Bears to Pauley Pavilion after sweeping the #2 Stanford Cardinal on Friday, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18.

Last Time Out

On Friday night, the Bruins were able to sweep the #2 Stanford Cardinal. In the first set, the Bruins jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, but the Cardinal managed to tie the set back up at 11-11. Mac May and Emily Ryan put the Bruins back in front, 13-11. For the rest of the set, it stayed close, but the Cardinal just couldn’t tie it back up and UCLA won, 25-22.

The second set began as a battle with Stanford taking an early 3-1 lead. But UCLA bounced back and tied it at 4-4. It was tied again at 13-13. An 8-2 Bruin run made it 21-15 and, soon, UCLA led 24-22 and had their first set point. The Cardinal managed to fight off three set points before Mac May ended the set with a Bruin kill.

Stanford took early 4-2 lead in the third set, but a Savvy Simo kill and a Cardinal attack error by former Bruin Madeleine Gates tied it at 4-4 while another Stanford attack error and Simo kill made it 6-4, Bruins. From there, the UCLA lead grew to nine points at 19-10. Stanford tried to rally late and actually cut the Bruins’ lead to five points at 23-18. An Emily Ryan kill gave UCLA their first match point and an Stanford attack error ended the match.

UC Berkeley Golden Bears

The Golden Bears have had a very good season so far. Their only two losses have come against Stanford and Southern Cal. So, today’s match will be another tough one.

But, if the Bruins can sweep Stanford, they should be able to beat UC Berkeley.
