This afternoon, the UCLA women’s volleyball team will host the #8 Washington Huskies at 2 pm at Pauley Pavilion. On Friday, the Bruins swept the Washington State Cougars, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.
Last Time Out
Friday night, the Bruins remained unbeaten in the Pac-12 when they swept Washington State. In the first set, the Cougars started out with a 5-1 run, but the Bruins bounced back with a 6-1 run of their own to take a 7-6 lead.
The teams battled it out and it was eventually tied 16-16. After the Bruins tied it up, they scored four more consecutive points to take the lead for good and UCLA went on to win the first set, 25-20.
UCLA started off with an 8-2 run in the second set. That was enough as UCLA never looked back in this set and the Bruins went on to win the set, 25-17.
The third set started even better for the Bruins as UCLA began with an 11-2 run. But the Cougars couldn’t recover and UCLA went on to win the third and final set, 25-18.
The Bruins outhit the Cougars, .211 to .082. Three Bruins were in double figures in kills. Jenny Mosser led the team with 14 while Savvy SImo had 13 and Mac May added 10. Cali Thompson led the team with 26 assists and Devon Chang added 10 more. Kelli Barry had 17 digs to lead UCLA while Simo added 14 and May had 10, giving both Simo and May a double-double.
Washington Huskies
So far, the Huskies who were expected to lead the Pac-12 have stumbled in conference play. Washington lost their conference opener as well their match on Friday against Southern Cal. So, while today’s match appeared to be a tough one at the start of the season, it might not be quite as tough as originally thought.
The only other match that the Huskies have lost was their match against the Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine.
It appears that the Huskies may be slightly overrated.
That’s why I’m predicting a 3-1 UCLA win today.
Go Bruins!!!
