The UCLA women’s volleyball team were swept in their season opener by the Baylor Bears, 20-25, 16-25, 20-25, yesterday when the Bruins faced them in the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Last Time Out
The Bruins were led by Savvy Simo and Mac May, who each had 9 kills, while Jenny Mosser added 6 more. Devon Chang led the team in assists with 14 while Hawley Harrer had ten. Simo and May also were the team’s top diggers with 10 and 6, respectively.
Overall, UCLA just made too many attack errors in the match. For the match, the team had a dismal .074 hitting percentage and their high mark came in the second set when they still only hit for .103. By comparison, Baylor’s low hitting percentage came was .172 in the first set. Their high came in set two when they hit for .500.
This match was all-Baylor and the stats reflect it. The second set was definitely the worst of it as the Bears had the Bruins doubled up for most of it.
#2 Nebraska Cornhuskers
If yesterday’s match was tough, tonight’s match might just be even uglier. That’s because the Bruins will now face the #2 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Nebraska won their match over #18 Creighton, 3-1.
Outlook
Seeing how uncompetitive UCLA was yesterday against Baylor doesn’t leave me much hope for tonight. Maybe Michael Sealy has something up his sleeve for the Cornhuskers. But, frankly, I’m not counting on it. Look for a Nebraska sweep.
Go Bruins.
