Maddie Musselman led the Bruins with five goals in the season opener.

@UCLAWaterPolo

To say that the Bruins started the season strong might just be an understatement. They defeated San Jose State last night 20-1 in their first game of the season.

Freshman Maddie Musselman scored two goals in the first quarter and three more in the third in her UCLA debut while fellow U.S. Olympian Rachel Fattal added four goals in her return to the team.

The Bruins led 6-0 at the half due to Musselman’s two goals, two of Fattal’s goals and one each from Devin Grab and Alys Williams.

UCLA would add six more goals, three from Musselman and one each from Fattal, Jenna Hurst, and Alexa Tielmann, in the third quarter before finally giving up a goal to the Spartans with 40 seconds left in the quarter. Mackenzie Barr would add one more goal for UCLA to give the Bruins a 13-1 lead after three.

In the fourth quarter, UCLA would add seven more goals when Kodi Hill added three goals and Fattal, Grab, Grace Reego, and Kelsey O’Brien each added a goal.
