After defeating San Jose State on the road in their MSPF opener, the Bruins play Cal State Bakersfield in their MPSF home opener this afternoon at Spieker Aquatics Center.
In last weekend’s game, UCLA went up North and pounded the Spartans 24-2 where five different Bruins scored hat tricks. Maddie Musselman and Alexa Thielman each led the team with four goals each.
Bronte Halligan scored the first of her three goals at 5:45 in the first quarter and Aubrie Monahan and Kelsey O’Brien also had three goals each. Rachel Fattal added two goals to move just four goals behind current third-place all-time goal scorer Katie Rulong, while Alexis Angermund and Kodi Hill also scored two goals each. Lizette Rozeboom also scored a fourth-quarter goal for UCLA.
Carlee Kapana played the first three quarters in the net for the Bruins and held the Spartans scoreless. She was relieved in the fourth by Hannah Storum who allowed two goals but, by then, it didn’t matter.
Musselman’s four goals earned her the MSPF Newcomer of the Week for the third time this season. She also led UCLA with three steals on defense.
