The UCLA Women’s Water Polo team extended their winning streak to five in a row last night when they defeated the San Diego State Aztecs, 22-5 at the Hawai’i Invitational in Honolulu. Thirteen different Bruins scored in last night’s game.
The Bruins were in full-on attack mode from the opening sprint as Maddie Musselman got the scoring started for UCLA with her first goal just nine seconds into the game. Alys Williams’ two first quarter goals made it 3-0, UCLA. Alex Angermund scored the first of her two goals while Musselman added her second and Kodi Hill and Mackenzie Barr wrapped up the first quarter scoring, giving UCLA a 7-0 lead.
That would prove to be enough to win the game, but it didn’t stop the Bruins. Williams completed her hat trick as she scored the first goal of the second quarter to give the team an 8-0 lead before the Aztecs finally scored their first goal. Bronte Halligan, Alexa Tielmann, Hill, Lizette Rozeboom and Aubrie Monahan each added goals while SDSU's Alyssa Diacono scored their only other goal of the half and it was UCLA 13, SDSU 2 at the half.
In the third, UCLA picked up where they left off before halftime as Halligan and Tielmann each scored their second goals of the game while Nicole Reynolds scored the Bruins’ other goal of the period and UCLA led 15-3 after three.
The fourth quarter didn’t get any easier for the Aztecs. Rachel Whitelegge scored two goals in the period while Reynolds and Angermund both added their second goals of the game. Sophomore Louise Hazell got her first goal of the season while Jenna Hurst also scored a fourth quarter goal.
