UCLA Women’s Water Polo Heads to San Diego for Triton Invitational

Sixteen teams will battle it out in this tournament.

@uclawaterpolo

UCLA heads South to San Diego this weekend for the Triton Invitational where sixteen teams will compete in this tournament.

The Bruins open play this morning by face the Iona Gaels at 8 am PT. The Gaels shouldn’t be much of a match for the #4 Bruins, considering that the Gaels have won just one game so far this season in six attempts.

The Gaels’ lone win came last Saturday against Brown in a 9-8 nailbiter. Two of their five losses have come against Top 15 teams. Two weekends ago, they lost to #14 UC Santa Barbara 13-2 and #12 Indiana 17-8.

Speaking of the Hoosiers, they could be UCLA’s second opponent today. Assuming the Bruins win their game against Iona, UCLA will face the winner of this morning’s game between UC San Diego and Indiana at 2:40 pm PT. Considering that the Tritons are 4-5 while the Hoosiers are 5-1, I’d expect Indiana to win that game. If UCLA is unable to beat the Gaels, the Bruins will face the loser between the Tritons and the Hoosiers at 1:20 pm PT.

Since the Triton Invitational is being played as a tournament with a champion being crowned, tomorrow’s games for UCLA will be determined by the results of today’s games. However, it is highly likely that tomorrow’s championship game will feature the first matchup of the season between the Bruins and Southern Cal.

But, first things first. UCLA needs to win its games today to set that up for tomorrow, even if today’s games don’t look particularly difficult.

Go Bruins!
