USC may have a long history in baseball, but none of it has come recently. They have absolutely fallen off the map and at the same time, UCLA has finally made good on their "sleeping giant" moniker. The Bruins have not lost a season series to the Trojans since 2004, have won their last four games against their rivals and have taken 19 of their last 24 against SC. It has been complete Bruin domination.
The Bruins will try to keep that going today when they take on the Trojans in the last game of the Dodgertown Classic. Grant Watson will be on the mound for UCLA, who is carrying around a 2-0 record and 1.37 ERA. Few Sunday pitchers in the country have been as good as Watson, who has taken a major step forward as a sophomore.
Kyle Twomey will get the nod for USC. He got lit up last weekend, pushing his record to 1-1 with a 5.29 ERA, but he is a very talented and one of the best freshmen pitchers in the Pac-12 so we'll see if this is a day he can put it together.
This game was supposed to be televised on the Pac-12 Network, but the broadcast was cancelled so if you're not at the stadium this afternoon, listen in to John Ramey and Tim Welhelm or follow along with GameTracker. You can also get all of your game updates and observations, as well as all news, notes and links on my UCLA baseball Twitter. This is your open thread so chime in with updates and observations as the Bruins hopefully put a beatdown on the Trojans.
