The road to Omaha for the UCLA Baseball team is about to begin. In the wake of Dave Berg being named the Pac-12's pitcher of the year and a first-team All-American, the Bruins open the Regional round of the NCAA Tournament tonight, hosting an opening-weekend round at Jackie Robinson Stadium for the fourth straight year.
#2 seed Cal Poly and the 3rd-seeded University of San Diego teams are opening the weekend in a game which should be wrapping up right about now. Once that game is over, Adam Plutko (7-3, 2.60 era) will take the mound in what is likely his final home game for the Bruins against San Diego State. The Aztecs will counter with senior righthander Ryan Doran (8-3, 2.63 era).
Ryan's preview of this weekend's regional is here. Tonight's game notes from the official site are available here, with additional info on the weekend's games accessible from UCLA's Tournament homepage. For anyone able to make it to the Westside today, single game tickets are $15 ($12 youth) reserved (limited availability) and $10 ($8 youth) GA at the stadium ticket office.
First pitch is scheduled for approximately 6pm Pacific time, but may be delayed depending on the end time of that Cal Poly/USD game. Live stats will be available as usual via Gametracker, and an audio broadcast is available here via the official site. Tonight's game will not be televised, but ESPN will be streaming the game online through ESPN3.com.
This is your open thread for tonight's NCAA Baseball Tournament opener.
