San Francisco Giants farmhand-to be (?) looks to send the Bruins to Omaha
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-US PRESSWIRE

After last night's thrilling win over the Titans in the opening game of the Fullerton Super Regional, the Bruins are back in action tonight, one win away from advancing to the College World Series.

Newly-drafted Nick Vander Tuig (11-4, 2.51 era) will be starting for the Bruins, countered by the second of Fullerton's star pair of freshman righthanders, Thomas Eshelman (12-2, 1.59 era). Ryan wrote a thorough preview for this weekend's series on Friday. Series notes from the official site are here. Bad news for any OC Bruins - tickets for tonight's game are sold out. In the event of a deciding game tomorrow night, tickets will go on sale tomorrow at 7am via the CSUF website.

The Super Regionals are not the only notable event this week involving amateur baseball - the MLB Draft finished up this afternoon. Overall, seven Bruins have been selected. Nick Vander Tuig was selected in the 6th round (192nd pick) by the Giants; Zack Weiss was taken three picks later by the Reds, and the Rockies went on to select Patrick Valaika at the start of the 9th Round, #259 overall.

Adam Plutko was taken later than I expected him to go, finally ending up with the Indians in the 11th round. Brenton Allen was picked in the 20th round by the Nationals, Kevin Williams was selected by the Marlins in the 29th round, and Ryan Deeter was the Brewers' 32nd round choice. All of these guys are juniors and may elect to come back to Westwood for their senior years, depending on the offers given by their respective teams.

First pitch is scheduled for 7pm Pacific time. Tonight's game will be televised on ESPN2, and will also be streamed through ESPN3.com. Live stats will be available as usual via Gametracker, and an audio broadcast is available here via the official site.

This is your open thread for tonight's game, MLB Draft talk and other NCAA Super Regional action around the country.

GO BRUINS.
