UCLA's season opener didn't go so well. They were shutout and a first inning bases loaded hit by pitch proved to be the difference as Portland grabbed a 1-0 win at Jackie Robinson Stadium, but the Bruins lost their first game last year and things still turned out alright.
The Bruins will send Grant Watson to the mound today with the hope that he can earn them their first win of the season. The southpaw went 9-3 with a 3.01 ERA last season working midweek games, including a College World Series win. He'll be opposed by Kody Watts, a fellow junior who went 1-2 with a 4.46 ERA last year. Facing a right-hander should make things easier on the Bruins, who were completely flummoxed last night
The game starts at 2 p.m. PT and, as always, you can listen along with John Ramey and Tim Wilhelm. You can also follow along on my UCLA baseball Twitter and on Gamecast. This is your open thread so fill it with updates, thoughts and whatever else you have as UCLA tries to get their first win of the season.
