UCLA didn't envision starting the season 8-7, but they also didn't envision inconsistent pitching and a sub-par defense so here they are, a game above .500 on the Tuesday before Pac-12 play starts. Before they can get into the conference, though, they have to take on UC Irvine at Jackie Robinson Stadium
The Anteaters enter the weekend 11-3 on the season, but still outside of the top 25 because they haven't played the toughest of schedules. Their toughest series of the season came against Fresno St., who they lost to, but they do have single game wins over Arizona St., Long Beach St. and LMU.
UCLA will give the ball to Grant Dyer tonight with the hope that he can turn things around. After a spectacular first start of the season, the freshman has struggled in each of his last two and now sits at 1-2 with a 3.71 ERA on the year. He will be opposed by Evan Manarino, who is 1-0 with a 2.76 ERA this season.
For those of you not at the ballpark, you can listen along with John Ramey. You can also follow along on my UCLA baseball Twitter and on Gamecast. This is your open thread so fill it with updates, thoughts and whatever else you have as UCLA tries to give themselves a bit of momentum heading into conference play.
