UCLA Baseball: Poteet Takes The Hill In Rubber Game

The Bruins dropped their first game of the season after giving up a total of 6 runs in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings.

The UCLA baseball team lost their first game of the season on Saturday 9-6 to the UNC Tar Heels on Saturday at Jay Bergman Field in Orlando, Florida. That evens the 3-game weekend series at one game a piece as they head into today's rubber match. Cody Poteet will be on the mound for the Bruins and J.B. Bukauskas will be on the hill for North Carolina.

The Bruins continued to get good offensive production out of the heart of the order with Kevin Kramer, Luke Persico, Ty Moore, and Chris Keck getting 9 of UCLA's 12 hits in Saturday's game. The foursome also drove in four runs and scored 5.

But, UCLA's six runs weren't enough to earn the win as North Carolina put up 3 runs (2 earned) against starter Grant Watson who went 5 innings, along with 2 against Griffin Canning who pitched 2/3rds of an inning in relief and 3 more against Hunter Virant who allowed 3 unearned runs in the seventh inning.

Riley Hovis got the win in relief for the Tar Heels while Canning took the loss.

Today, Poteet is looking for his second win of the young season after holding Hofstra to two runs on four hits over six nnings last Sunday. UNC freshman Bukauskas is looking for his second win of both the season and his collegiate career after holding after holding Seton Hall to one unearned run and four hits in five innings in Game 2 of last Saturday's doubleheader.

Today's game starts at 8am PT/11 am ET and the audio feed can be heard on
