The Bruin Nine make their annual stop in the San Fernando Valley this afternoon when UCLA visits Cal State Northridge.
In their previous game on Sunday, UCLA beat Gonzaga 5-4 to take 2 of 3 from the Zags and move their record to 4-2.
Gonzaga got on the board right away against starter Jon Olsen by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Bruins came back with a four-run rally in the bottom of the second to take a 4-2 lead when they used five singles and a sacrifice fly to get their runs across.
Gonzaga closed the Bruin lead to 4-3 in the top of the third, but Jake Pries homered for UCLA in the bottom of the inning and that proved to be the winning run as the only other run the Bulldogs would manage to score would be on a Tyler Frost homer in the top of the fourth.
UCLA’s bullpen, which has been shaky so far this year, came through with five shutout innings while giving up only two hits and two walks the rest of the way. Nick Schiedler got the win in relief for the Bruins and Brian Gadsby earned his first save of the season.
In today’s game, John Savage will give sophomore lefty Justin Hooper the start for UCLA. He will face senior righthander Drake Atlee for the Matadors.
The start time for today’s game is 2 pm PT. As always, you can listen online to John Ramey and Tim Wilhelm call the game via streaming online audio. You can also follow along with CSUN’s live stats.
Tomorrow, the Bruins play an exhibition game at home against Korean team NC Dinos.
