Washington topped UCLA Baseball 6-3 yesterday to win this weekend’s series against the Bruins. The Huskies took the lead in their first at-bat when centerfielder Jack Meggs homered.
The game stayed 1-0 until the top of the sixth inning after MJ Hubbs started the inning with a double. Joey Morgan knocked a single to move Hubbs to third. Hubbs then scored on a Bruin double play.
The Huskies added three runs in the top of the seventh to open up a 5-0 lead. That would prove to be enough for Washington even though they added another insurance run in the top of the eighth.
The Bruins finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when Michael Toglia homered. UCLA rallied for two more in the bottom of the eighth but the Bruins were unable to mount any kind of rally in the bottom of the ninth and the final score was 6-3.
Moises Ceja (1-2) took the loss despite giving up just two runs over five innings while Jordan Jones (4-4) got the win for the Huskies.
Today, the teams close out the series at 1 pm. Jon Olsen will start for the Bruins while the Huskies have not named their starter.
