Last night, Ryan Garcia won his eighth game of the season when the UCLA Bruins beat the Washington Huskies, 8-3, at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Tonight, UCLA will look for the series win when the teams meet again at 7 pm PT.
After Garcia struck out the side to start the game, Garrett Mitchell got the Bruins started with a single to right. He was able to advance to second when the Huskies right fielder bobbled the ball. Mitchell scored when Ryan Kreidler hit the first pitch he saw for a single to give the Bruins an early 1-0 lead, but the Huskies got that run right back in the top of the second on a wild pitch that tied the game.
In the bottom half of the second, Jake Pries hit a one-out single to right to start UCLA’s next rally. After Jeremy Ydens flew out for the second out, Noah Cardenas singled and Matt McLain walked to load the bases. That set the table for Mitchell, who then tripled to score three for the Bruins. That made the score 4-1 and Mitchell’s hit would prove to be the game-winner.
The Huskies cut UCLA’s lead to 4-3 in the top of the fifth on an error by Michael Toglia, but he made up for it by doubling in the bottom half of the inning and scoring on a double by Pries which made it 5-3, Bruins.
In the sixth, UCLA added two more. Cardenas singled to start the inning and scored on an RBI triple by Mitchell. A sacrifice fly by Kreidler scored Mitchell from third and put the Bruins up 7-3. UCLA added one more run in the seventh when Cardenas hit an RBI single which scored Jack Stronach and made it an 8-3 final as the Bruins’ bullpen held tight throwing four scoreless innings.
Tonight, UCLA goes for the series win when the Bruins meet the Huskies at 7 pm PT. Jack Ralston looks for his tenth win of the season for the Bruins while Jordan Jones will start for the Huskies.
Tonight’s game will actually be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks National, Los Angeles, and Washington.
