What a night for UCLA baseball! Not only did the Bruins win their game against LMU, 6-3 to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals, but three Bruins were selected in the first two rounds of the 2019 MLB Draft.
The 2019 MLB Draft continues today with rounds three through ten, starting at 10 am PT and streaming live on MLB.com.
There was a bit of baseball news that did get overlooked in all of our excitement.
UCLA baseball signee Corbin Carroll was picked sixteenth overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Carroll is an outfielder from Lakeside HS in Seattle. Now, the Bruins will play the waiting game as Carroll decides whether to sign with the D-Backs or come to Westwood.
On one hand, it might seem like a foregone conclusion that Carroll will sign since he was drafted in the first round and will receive first round signing money. But, last year, Arizona drafted a guy named Matt McLain in the first round who opted to come to Westwood instead of signing with the Diamondbacks. So, who knows?
What I do know is that UCLA’s nine-man recruiting class was ranked fourth when it was announced in November. How many more of those signees will be drafted today or tomorrow? Plus, how many more current Bruins will hear their names called?
This is your 2019 MLB Draft Day 2 open thread.
Go Bruins!!!
