UCLA C Thomas Welsh has been selected to play for the 2015 USA Basketball Men's U19 team which will compete in the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship in Greece.
Welsh is one of twelve players chosen for the team which enters the tournament as the defending champion. As a true freshman last season, he averaged 3.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He also led UCLA in blocks with 39 for the year. Welsh and Kevon Looney were the only Bruin freshmen to play in all 36 games last season.
Welsh should see a good amount of playing time because he is one of only two centers on the roster. In addition to representing UCLA, he is also representing the Pac-12 as no other player from the conference made the roster.
The 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship will take place from July 1st through July 5th. To be eligible to play, athletes must be U.S. citizens who were born on or after Jan. 1, 1996.
Team USA will be coached by Arizona head coach Sean Miller.
Go USA and Go Bruins!!!
