What’s Bruin: The Warriors of College Basketball

News and notes from around the UCLA-iverse.

NCAA Basketball: Michigan at UCLA Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Are the UCLA Bruins the Golden State Warriors of college basketball? Matt Cummings in the Daily Bruin writes about how Steve Alford, a la the Warriors, eschewed the pick-and-roll for more motion to unleash the high-octane offense we’ve been seeing this season so far from Ball, Leaf, & Co.

Many national outlets have already done their Lonzo Ball-is-special pieces, now FiveThiryEight adds theirs to the list, by contributor Matt Giles.

And at ESPN, Eamonn Brennan celebrates how UCLA basketball—even to the national, objective observer—is fun again. And that’s the way it should be.

The women’s basketball team also played the Wolverines over the weekend and defeated Michigan by a similar margin to the men’s team, 84-64. The Bruins are currently ranked #9 by the AP.

And lastly, the women’s volleyball season came to an end over the weekend during the elite eight of the NCAA tournament, dropping straight sets to #2 Minnesota, who will advance to the Final Four.

Congrats on a great season!
