After dropping their second game in Australia to the Melbourne United 89-84, the Bruins look for a win today against the Brisbane Bullets, who are returning to Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) this year after a five year hiatus. Earlier in August, the Bullets signed Jermaine Beal, a two time NBL champion. Beal hails from Texas and played for Vanderbilt University in college. He was awarded the Larry Sengstock Medal for being the MVP in the 2013-2014 season while playing for the Perth Wildcats, and made history in 2016 when he scored ten three-pointers in a 40-minute game. He is listed as a guard on the roster, playing alongside scoring ace Torrey Craig. Craig averages 22 points and 10 rebounds per game, and was named the New Zealand MVP in 2015. Needless to say, the Bruins have their work cut out for them tomorrow.

The Bullets are led by head coach Andrej Lemanis, who was previously the head coach of the New Zealand Breakers. Lemanis coached the Breakers for eight consecutive seasons, taking them to three consecutive championship titles in 2011, 2012 and 2013. He was awarded the NBL Coach of the Year award in 2012 and 2013. The Bullets are trying to revive their reputation in the league and cutting their teeth on the Bruins is where they’re starting.
