Last week, UC Berkeley opened conference play at home against the Arizona schools and came away with a split. They lost to #18 Arizona and beat ASU.
So far this season, the Golden Bears have come close to beating a ranked opponent twice. In the final nonconference game against then-#12 Virginia, UC Berkeley lost a close one 56-52. Then, last weekend they lost to the Wildcats 67-62.
Tonight’s game will be another good test for the Bruins as the Golden Bears are a defensive-minded team. They are 4th in the nation in shooting efficiency (0.910), 12th in field goal percentage defense (37.5%) and 12th in three-point field goal defense (28.5%).
Offensively, UC Berkeley is led by Jabari Bird who is tops on the team with an average of 15.8 points per game. Charlie Moore and Ivan Rabb are also both averaging more than 15 ppg each, although Moore has seen a dip in points since Bird returned to the lineup. Rabb is the only Bear who is averaging in double figures in rebounds with 10.3.
The team also has Roger Moute a Bidias coming off the bench. That’s notable simply because he is the younger brother of former Bruin Luc-Richard Mbah a Moute.
