Tonight’s game will be a tale of two teams headed in opposite directions. On the one hand, you have UCLA, one of the top teams in the country which was undefeated in February. On the other, you have the Huskies. Since UCLA beat them in Seattle last month, Washington has lost all five games they’ve played.
The Huskies are now 9-19 overall and just 2-14 in conference. Their last win was on January 18th at home against Colorado in overtime. No wonder it seemed like the entire Washington team had no desire to play the Bruins when the teams met last month. Losing will do that to you.
Of course, the last time the teams played, it was billed as a matchup between Lonzo Ball and Markelle Fultz. In reality, it was Lonzo Ball AND the Bruins versus Fultz because the rest of the team did very little for Washington. Tonight, Washington may not even have Fultz due to a sore knee.
With his team playing so poorly, one has to wonder whether this could end up being Lorenzo Romar’s final year in Seattle.
The last time out, UCLA won by 41 points. Don’t look for that large a margin again tonight. Instead, look to see if UCLA Coach Steve Alford tries to give his starters a rest by taking them off the floor once the game is well in hand.
