Let’s check in quickly on the latest UCLA sports news.
UCLA Basketball
The NBA announced the names of all early entry candidates for the 2018 NBA Draft yesterday after Sunday’s deadline to enter this year’s draft. In all, 236 players have filed for consideration.
As we previously mentioned, Aaron Holiday, Kris Wilkes and Jaylen Hands were all on the list as was former UCLA player LiAngelo Ball.
There was a surprise on the list as well. Apparently, Cody Riley, one of the two remaining UCLA players who were suspended for the 2017-18 season for shoplifting in China, has also decided to enter the draft. According to an article in the LA Times, Riley is not believed to have hired an agent and, if that’s the case, he could still return to UCLA next year. Players who don’t hire an agent can withdraw their names from consideration by May 30th and retain their eligibility.
UCLA Gymnastics
The 2018 National Champion UCLA Gymnastics team will be honored on campus this coming Monday, April 30th in Bruin Plaza. The event is free and open to the public and will begin at 3:45pm. Free pizza will be provided for the first 800 fans in attendance and there will be other giveaways.
The championship trophy will be on display and fans will be able to take photos with it.

The women’s golf team is currently ranked #1 in the country.
UCLA Softball
The UCLA Softball team is now ranked #1 in the nation after sweeping previous #1 Washington over the weekend.
The Bruins swept this week’s Pac-12 softball awards as Aaliyah Jordan was named both the Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week and Rachel Garcia was selected as the Pitcher of the Week.
Garcia also earned the NFCA Pitcher of the Week award this week. It is Garcia’s third NFCA weekly award of the season.
UCLA Baseball
After sweeping crosstown rival Southern Cal over the weekend, UCLA Baseball has moved into the Top Ten in the latest polls. The Bruins are now ranked #9 in the nation in the three major polls.
Last night, the Bruins defeated Cal State Fullerton, 12-4, at home.
This weekend, the Bruins head up to the coast for a three-game non-conference series against Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
Polls
Finally, today, let’s take a look at where UCLA’s teams we haven’t already mentioned are ranked in the polls.
The beach volleyball team continues to be ranked #1. Men’s tennis is ranked second while men’s volleyball is ranked third. Women’s water polo is ranked #4. Women’s tennis is 13 in the nation. Last, but not least, the men’s golf team is 24th.
And, that What’s Bruin this Wednesday morning.
