UCLA Bruin Football Rises to 18th in the AP and Coaches Polls

After defeating Nevada 58-20 at the Rose Bowl last Saturday night, the Bruins have moved up three spots in the AP and USA Today/Coaches' Polls.

Due to the opening week of college football falling on the extended Labor Day holiday, the debut Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches polls were pushed back from their traditional Sunday morning release. With the weekend - and the full college schedule - out of the way, the polls are out. And they like the Bruins.

Both the AP and Coaches' have moved UCLA up from the #21 spot in the preseason poll to 18th after Week 1. We have actually jumped our next opponent, Nebraska, in this weeks rankings. After a too-close win over Wyoming in Lincoln, the Cornhuskers fell from their #18 spot in both preseason rankings to 19th in today's AP results, and 22nd according to the Coaches.

In the Pac-12, the coaches moved Oregon up from #3 to #2 this week, while dropping inactive Stanford from their preseason #4 position to #5 this week, with Clemson taking their old spot after their home win over Georgia. The AP voters kept both teams in their preseason positions.

Despite their less than impressive win at Hawaii, Southern Cal remained in the top-25, actually improving from 24th to 22nd in the AP poll. The coaches' dropped them one spot, from 24th to 25th. After beating up on Boise State while opening up the new Husky Stadium, Washington took Oregon State's place in the top-25, jumping into the rankings at 22nd in the AP poll. By the coaches' judgment, they leaped Southern Cal, coming in at #20.

In the wake of the FCS faceplant by Oregon St, there are 5 Pac-12 teams in both of the major top-25 rankings this week. While the Beavers fell off the face of the earth of the polls entirely, Arizona and ASU did receive top-25 votes.
