UCLA in the Polls: Up to #15 in the Coaches' Poll, #14 in the AP

There was a lot of movement in the polls this week, after some major upsets and some marquee showdowns. But UCLA remained an island of calm, moving up slightly after beating Washington yesterday. Next up is the College Football Playoff Committee rankings, which will come out on Tuesday. Expect UCLA to be closer but outside the top 12 bowl slots.

Auburn dropped big time in the polls after being unable to execute a simple snap of the football in the waning moments against A&M.

Michigan State dropped big time in the polls after losing to Ohio State.

Notre Dame dropped big time in the polls after falling off the planet in the early going at ASU, climbing back, and then falling off again.

So somebody must have moved up.

Baylor moved up after taking down Oklahoma convincingly in a top-25 showdown.

Ohio State moved up after beating Michigan State.

Arizona State moved up after beating Notre Dame.

While other teams were bouncing up and down, UCLA moved up slightly. Last week, the Bruins were #18 in the Coaches' Poll and the AP Poll. This week the Bruins are #15 in the Coaches' Poll and #14  in the AP Poll.

Winning on the road against an unranked opponent (Washington) is not sufficient to catch the pollsters' attention. There is nothing the Bruins can do about that. You play the schedule you are given, and make the most of it. But to really jump, the Bruins are going to need some help. Beating $C and Stanford will certainly help, but the Bruins really need to be in the Pac-12 championship game to make a serious run in the polls.

Here are the poll results- first the AP (poll story here)

I didn't realize that Starbucks is fielding a team this season, but it kind of looks like it from the logo for the #25 team in the Coaches' Poll (check the link).

Meanwhile, that Utah game hurts more with each passing week (insert teeth gnashing here). Go Bruins !!
