4-Star RB Ryan Newsome Being Recruited to UCLA by former Oregon State WR

Newsome was very intrigued by UCLA, and he was even recruited there by an unlikely source — former Oregon State star Brandin Cooks, now of the New Orleans Saints, while at The Opening.

In addition to being the 21st overall selection in this year's draft, Saints WR Brandin Cooks was recruiting prep RB Ryan Newsome to come to UCLA.

SBNation.com interviewed 4-Star RB Ryan Newsome about his recent West Coast recruiting trip while he was at The Opening. The interesting piece of news as far as UCLA is concerned was that former Oregon State All-American and New Orleans Saints WR Brandin Cooks was essentially recruiting Newsome for the Bruins.

Newsome mentioned that Cooks told him that, if Coach Mora had been at UCLA when he was making his decision, he would have gone to UCLA. While we could waste our time playing what if Cooks had stayed, it makes no sense to do that.

Well, we'd like to thank Brandin Cooks for helping out Coach Mora and our football team as they recruit Newsome. I'm glad he didn't suggest that Newsome go somewhere like Oregon State.

The article concludes by trying to suggest that Bruins fans disliked former Coach Neuheisel by saying:

If Bruins fans already disliked Rick Neuheisel, they'll now be even more up in arms about what could have been.

Well, as upset as "UCLA's Irrational Fan Base" may have been for the lack of on-field success during Neuheisel's tenure, I don't know anyone who can say they "dislike" Coach Neuheisel. He is one of the most likable people you could ever meet. He bleeds Blue and Gold. Even after being fired from his dream job, he still maintains his love for the Four Letters. He is a class act through and through.

Sure, it was disappointing that he wasn't able to convert his enthusiasm into a winning football program, but, to say that we'll be more angry at Coach Neuheisel for what could have been could only have been written by someone who doesn't understand UCLA fans. Coach Neuheisel was still able to do something his predecessor couldn't do which was leave a talent-laden roster behind that has been the foundation for our improvement.

Go Bruins!
