Greetings! I hope that you enjoyed a fun day of college football yesterday without the angst of worrying about our beloved Bruins. There are still plenty of things happening with UCLA Athletics. Enjoy your Sunday coffee with today's Bruin Bites.

UCLA Football

As pointed out by bruin1999 in a Fanshot yesterday, sophomore wide receiver, Mossi Johnson, who had also seen time at defensive back, is out for the season with a torn ACL.

The UCLA Bruin football program really seems snake-bitten in 2015. Let's recap:

  • Adrian Klemm suspended
  • P-Diddy Kettleball incident
  • 4 * Wide Receiver Cordell Broadus quits football
  • Simon Goines out with an undisclosed medical condition (still listed on the roster though)
  • Ish Adams arrested
  • 5* Tight End Chris Clark leaves the program
  • Eddie Vanderdoes out for the season
  • Fabian Moreau out for the season
  • Myles Jack out of the season; leaves school to go pro
  • Adam Searl arrested on suspicion of sexual assault
  • Mossi Johnson out for the season

Have I missed anything? They say bad things happen in threes. How about elevens? Talk about Battered Bruin Syndrome. The Bruins take on Stanford at The Farm this Thursday night, at 7:30 p.m. PT.

Men's Water Polo

The undefeated and top ranked UCLA Men's Water Polo Team recorded a pair of victories yesterday in the Kap7 SoCal Invitational. In the first round, UCLA dismantled. Pomona-Pitzer, 22-6. In the quarterfinals, UCLA beat up on #7 UC Irvine, 13-4.

The Bruins move on to play #4 UC Berkeley in the semi-finals this morning at 10:40 a.m. PT. The winner of that game will play in the final at 5:20 p.m. PT, versus the winner of #2 Stanford and #3 Southern Cal. Go Bruins!

Women's Soccer

The UCLA Women's Soccer Team, wearing hot pink jerseys to raise awareness for breast cancer, pounded the #15 Arizona Wildcats, 5-1, at Drake Stadium on Friday night. The Bruins took the lead in the 5th minute on a rebound goal by Darian Jenkins. UCLA went on to score four more unanswered goals, but could not keep a clean sheet, as the Bruins conceded in the 86th minute, resulting in the final scoreline. Five different Bruins scored, raising UCLA's record to 6-6, 2-2 in the PAC 12.

The women resume play against Arizona State today at Drake Stadium at 1:00 p.m. The game will be televised on PAC 12 Los Angeles and Pac 12 Arizona.

Women's Volleyball

The UCLA Women's Volleyball Team upended the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City on Friday night. Check out the box score. Although they dropped the first set, 25-17, the Bruins roared back to take the next three sets in dominating fashion, 25-12, 25-15, and 25-16. Jordan Anderson led the Bruins with 18 kills. Claire Felix had 11 kills, with a stellar .667 hitting percentage. The #13 Bruins raise their record to 12-3, 3-2 in the PAC 12. Utah falls to 7-9, 1-4 in the PAC 12.

UCLA plays at Colorado (10-7, 2-3 PAC 12) today at 11 a.m. PT, after the Buffs lost a 5 set heart-breaker against Southern Cal on Friday night. Today's match will be televised nationally on the PAC 12 Network. Go Bruins!

That's it for today's Bruin Bites. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
