Basketball season is over. Spring Practice has begun. That means the return of Bruin Football Bites! Let's get right to it and see what is being written after the first practice.
Chris Foster of the LA Times has a few articles. One is a profile of Jerry Neuheisel. Foster looks at Jerry's bid to be UCLA's starting quarterback and how Jerry is dealing with the underdog role.
Foster has some interesting quotes. Of course, the first person he quotes is Jerry's dad, Rick:
"I keep telling him about 'The Little Engine That Could.' "
He also quotes UCLA WR Jordan Payton:
"Jerry is a very, very competitive person. He takes what he does seriously. There is no chance that this just gets handed [to Josh]. This is going to be a true battle."
Of course, it wouldn't be complete without hearing from Jerry himself:
"I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a chip on my shoulder. Everyone thought the scholarship was handed to me, that I didn't deserve to be here. That motivated me more and more."
In his other article, Foster writes about Randall Goforth being granted an extra season of eligibility.
Goforth, who will be a senior in the fall, missed all but two games last season because of shoulder injuries. He had surgery on both shoulders.
The NCAA granted a waiver for last season, leaving Goforth with two years of eligibility.
He adds that Goforth was wearing a red no-contact jersey during practice yesterday.
Meanwhile, Jack Wang of the LA Daily News and Inside UCLA looks at the QB battle even though his headline focuses on Josh Rosen.
That pretty much wraps up what's been written about the first day of Spring Practice. The next session is tomorrow morning at 7am.
Go Bruins!!!
