This morning, Sports Illustrated’s Bruce Feldman is reporting that Chip Kelly has hired four more staff members.
The first addition will serve as UCLA’s new defensive line coach. That will be 49ers assistant Vince Oghobaase. Oghobaase spent the past two seasons as the assistant defensive line coach for the Niners. So, he has worked for Kelly before as well as new DC Jerry Azzinaro. Prior to joining San Francisco, Oghobaase spent three years as a graduate assistant at Ohio State and one year at Duke.
The second addition comes from Washington State. Roy Manning, who served on Mike Leach’s staff as outside linebackers coach, will be the Bruins’ special teams coordinator. He spent the past three seasons in Pullman. Before that, he spent two years at Michigan, his alma mater, where he coached cornerbacks in 2014 and outside linebackers in 2013.
Speaking of alma maters, the third addition to the staff is returning to his alma mater as a graduate assistant after spending last season as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M. Yup, Jerry Neuheisel is coming home to Westwood. Welcome back, Jerry!
Neuheisel will serve as an offensive grad assistant.
The fourth addition to the staff is former Duke quarterback Thad Lewis, who played for Chip Kelly in both Philadelphia and San Francisco. Lewis will serve as an offensive analyst.
Here’s the latest look at the 2018 UCLA Football Coaching Staff. Only the Offensive Coordinator remains to be filled as far as the ten assistants allowed under NCAA rules.
