Welcome to this edition of What’s Bruin. It’s never a quiet day when it comes UCLA athletics.
UCLA Football
It’s no secret how poor the Bruins have played this season, and they made more headlines! Except, not the good kind. Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports has an article about the bottom 25 college football teams in the country and UCLA shows up as the 4th worst team in the country. Yikes. The UCLA Bruins are one of four winless teams left in college football so far this season.
UCLA Men’s Soccer
The Daily Bruin has an detailing the journey of men’s soccer phenom Mohammed Kamara. The story details how his hometown of Monrovia, Liberia was quarantined by the government for nearly one year. His journey from Liberia, to Texas, to Los Angeles is truly heart warming and worth your time. His story is far from over.
UCLA Women’s Golf
The #1 women’s golf team took second place at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, shooting a combined 10-under 278 in the last round, only to lose by two strokes to the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, sophomore Patty Tavatanakit came up huge all tournament, highlighted by her first place individual finish of 9-under 63.
Patty Tavatanakit even took home the honors of UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for her stellar performance last week. What’s most impressive is the fact that she made 7 consecutive birdies on holes 9-15 to shoot up the leaderboard. This is the third time she’s won the award in her young UCLA career and the first time this season.
And that’s What’s Bruin this Wednesday morning.
Go Bruins!
