It’s been a long 31⁄2 months since the UCLA Bruins played their last football game.
But, the good news is that the drought is over. Passes will be thrown. Routes will be run. Blocking drills will commence. And, there will be plenty of whistles blown, Today, the Bruins will play some football, or at least train to play some football.
Yes, my friends, that day you’ve been waiting for since the 2018 season ended with a loss to Stanford is finally here.
Sure, there was the Early Signing Period in December and National Signing Day in February, but that was just recruiting stuff. The real stuff begins at 8 am this morning when the UCLA Bruins take the field for the first time as season two begins under Chip Kelly.
Woo-hoo! We have football.
“It’s just practice,” you say. Well, don’t tell Chip Kelly that. He calls it “training” because that implies progress. And, today, the players will likely be in helmets and shorts. So, there won’t be much contact, if any.
But it doesn’t matter. It’s football.
Personally, I’m looking forward to the start of the quarterback battle between Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Chase Griffin. My money is on the Texas Gatorade Player of the Year to win the starting job, but, at this point, it’s just a guess.
Practice Time Weather Forecast
For those of you who have decided to wake up early and head to Westwood, here is your practice time weather forecast:
It’s going to be a little chilly this morning. So, pack your favorite sweatshirt. Practice will start off partly cloudy with the temperature in the low 50s. Midway through practice, the temperature will rise to the mid-to-upper 50s. The temperature will continue to climb and, when practice ends about 10 am, the temperature will be in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Well, look at the bright side. At least, it’s not raining today!
If you do make it out to Lot 8, be sure to say hello as I will be out there, camera in hand shooting photos for everyone who can’t be there to see.
