Anyone who watched the UCLA Bruins closely in 2018 knows how much the presence of Boss Tagaloa solidify UCLA’s offensive line. So, it’s nice to see that Tagaloa has been named to the 2019 Rimington Trophy watch list.
The Rimington Trophy honors the most outstanding center in the nation each year. The winner is selected by determining the consensus All-American center pick from three existing All-America Teams.
The Rimington Trophy committee relies on the All-America selections made by the Walter Camp Foundation, the Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America to determine the winner.
The center with the most first team votes will be determined the winner. If there is a tie with first team votes, then the center with most second team votes will win. If there is still a tie, the winner will be determined by the Rimington Trophy committee.
The Rimington Trophy is sponsored by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which was founded by the former Bengal quarterback after his son Gunnar was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Dave Rimington, whom the trophy is named after, was Esiason’s center with Cincinnati and is the only two-time winner of the Outland Trophy which honors the nation’s most outstanding lineman.
Rimington has been the president of the Boomer Esiason Foundation since 1995.
The Rimington Trophy will be presented on January 18, 2020 at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska.
