Women's College World Series: UCLA Rains On The Ducks' Parade, 7-1

Rain and lighning delayed the start of the game and there was a 49 minute weather delay between the second and third innings, but it didn't stop the Bruins from beating the Ducks 7-1.

@UCLASoftball

The weather may have made it a good day for ducks in Oklahoma City, but the Bruins definitely made it a bad day for the Oregon Ducks.

The start of the game was originally scheduled for 6:30 pm PT, but first pitch didn't happen until 7:53 pm PT due to bad weather earlier in the day and the Michigan-Alabama game which ended about 30 minutes before the start of the UCLA game.

After a scoreless first inning, the Bruins got on the board with home runs by catcher Stepany LaRosa and leftfielder Gabrielle Maurice.

Ally Carda kept the Ducks from doing any damage in the bottom of the inning and then came a lightning delay of 49 minutes. Play resumed in the top of the 3rd at 9:23 pm PT and nothing really changed until the top of the sixth inning when Allexis Bennett and Ally Carda both singled. Stephany LaRosa moved the runners over with a ground out to Ducks' pitcher Cheridan Hawkins. Mysha Sataraka drove them both in to give the Bruins a 4-0 lead.

Sam Duran pinch-ran for Sataraka and Gabrielle Maurice reached first on a wild pitch third strike. Gracie Goulder then singled which scored Duran and Kylee Perez drove in Maurice and Goulder to make it 7-0 Bruins.

That was all for Hawkins as the Ducks brought in Karissa Hovinga in relief who recorded the final out of the 6th inning and pitched a scoreless seventh.

Ally Carda got the complete game win for the Bruins to move to 32-6 on the season while Cheridan Hawkins (30-4) took the loss.

The Ducks tried to stage a late rally, but were only able to score one run against UCLA in the bottom of the seventh. The final score was UCLA 7 Oregon 1.

The Bruins now move into the winners bracket and face Michigan who defeated Alabama 5-0 with a scheduled start time of 6:30 pm PT tonight while Oregon will face Alabama at 11:30pm PT Saturday.

UCLA's game against Michigan will air on ESPN.
