The fourth-ranked Bruins continued their march through the Pac-12 Tournament winners bracket with a 4-1 victory over #6 Arizona yesterday. Waiting for them in the winners bracket semifinal is top-ranked USC. The Trojans blanked California 5-0 to claim their spot in this morning's match.

After losing to Arizona's Witt twins in Friday's Pac-12 Pairs Championships semifinals, UCLA's McNamara twins got their revenge on court 1 yesterday. Megan and Nicole McNamara defeated the Witts in straight sets, 21-18, 26-24.

But the Bruins had already secured the victory before the McNamaras won the final point on court 1. Jessyka Ngauamo and Zana Muno earned UCLA's first point on court 4 with a 21-15, 21-19 win over Arizona's Mason & Mau. The Bruins captured their second point shortly thereafter when Laurel Weaver and Julie Consani won two closely contested sets on court 5, 21-19, 26-24. UCLA's duo of Izzy Carey and Elise Zappia then claimed the deciding point on court 3 with a 21-15, 21-16 victory.

Yesterday's win was UCLA's second over Arizona this season. The two teams previously met in mid-March with the Bruins notching a 3-2 win over the Wildcats.

The winner of this morning's winner bracket semifinal will advance to the championship match at 4:00 PM this afternoon. The loser will drop into the "contenders bracket"to play the winner of Arizona-Washington in the contenders bracket semifinals at 1:00 PM. Therefore, win or lose, it's probable that the Bruins and the Trojans will battle twice today.

For what it's worth, UCLA did not fare well against USC when the teams met in the Pepperdine Kick Off Tournament on the first weekend in March. The Trojans swept the Bruins on that occasion, with UCLA winning only two sets. However, UCLA's duo of Ngauamo/Muno didn't compete that day, and the Bruins have improved considerably in the past two months. Today's match will be a good indicator of the progress the Bruins have made over the course of the season.
