Two years ago, the Bruins returned from the NCAA Tournament with a championship banner after a thrilling 4-3 win over North Carolina. Last year, UCLA fell at the final hurdle with a 4-2 loss to Vanderbilt. Can the Bruins return to the NCAA Tournament Championship for a third straight year?

UCLA will take its first step towards answering that question this morning when it faces 43rd-ranked Notre Dame (14-13) in an opening round match. The Bruins are led by senior Catherine Harrison, the ITA Southwest Region Senior Player of the Year. Most of Harrison's teammates from the previous two seasons are gone. The only other returning player from UCLA's championship team is senior Kyle McPhillips--Harrison's doubles partner and the Bruins' #2 singles player.

Sophomores Terri Fleming and Kristin Wiley return from last year's team, and are being asked to play significantly bigger roles now. Fleming is UCLA's #3 singles player and combines with freshman Alaina Miller--UCLA's #4 singles player--to form another of the Bruins' doubles partnerships. Sophomore Maia Magill saw very limited action last season, but she's paired with Wiley to form UCLA's third doubles team. Magill may also see action as the Bruins' #6 singles player.

If the Bruins defeat Notre Dame this morning, they'll play the winner of Youngstown State and #4 Ohio State tomorrow. at 1:00 PM PDT.

Go BRUINS!
